Sam was overwhelmed with the smell of perfume as he danced with some random girl. What was her name? Samantha? Sandy? Sarah? Something with an S, he just couldn’t put his finger on it. They swayed back and forth to the beat, Sam feeling dizzy and nauseous. Maybe it was just because of her perfume. Or the amount of Miller Lite he had consumed. Whatever. He needed to forget about Ana. She had been MIA the whole night, he had no idea where she had gone. But he didn’t care. Right?

Callie sighed as she leaned against the balcony, drink in hand. She hadn’t seen Abram all night, and she was starting to feel lonely. Why did she always have the feeling of needing a man? She knew that she shouldn’t feel that way, because she wanted to be independent. But she always felt a small piece of her missing when she wasn’t in a relationship. Like she needed boys to feel whole. She wished that that wasn’t true.
“Hey, stranger,” someone whispered in her ear. Their breath felt hot against her skin. She quickly turned around, it was Abram. He was obviously high, as she could tell by his bloodshot eyes.
“Hi,” she replied, looking up at him.
“Why is such a pretty girl standing all by herself, huh?” Abram asked, tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear.
“Because I want to,” Callie replied. Well that was a lie.
“Trust me, no one wants to be alone.” Abram mused, looking out at the ocean.
Callie simply rolled her eyes and rested her head on his shoulder. She instantly pulled back because of the smell. Unlike most people, she hated the smell of weed.
“What? Do I smell or something?” Abram asked, turning in towards her.
“Understatement of the year,” Callie said, laughing.
“Sorry, I’m a little baked.” Abram answered. Except it came out slowly, almost like a question. “I’m hungry, do you want to go out for ice cream?”
“Okay. We can walk, though. So you sober up a bit.” Callie said, touching him lightly on the nose.
Abram simply answered with a grunt and walked out towards the road. Callie ran quickly up to her room and grabbed her purse, only to find Sam hooking up with some random girl on her bed. She quietly picked up her tote bag, and slowly backed up towards the door, astonished. She thought he was in love with Ana. After witnessing the girls’ skanky ass straddled over him, she guessed not. She rolled her eyes as she opened the front door to go look for Abram. He was laying face down in the neighbors fresh cut grass. She walked over towards him and sat on his butt.
“Heyy…” He mumbled from the ground.
“You’re hilarious, Abram,” Callie said matter-of-factly, rolling onto her back beside him.
“Thanks,” He replied, propping himself up on his shoulder. He touched her lightly on her nose. She liked this feeling of silliness, of pure childish fun.
“Your finger’s wet…” Callie said, scrunching up her nose.
“Sorry. Ice cream?” Abram asked, sitting up fully now.
Callie simply smiled and took his hand, following him on down the street.
