I've written hundreds of stories and probably only finished... 1?! haha
... about boarding school, ballet, figure skating, summer trips etc. I just think something, then write. Which normally ends in an unsuccessful story where i think up more and more ideas and try to fit them all into one.
The Romeo and Juliet type one I was doing... i think it would have been too hard. I wanted it to be realistic and I just dont have the time to do the historic research into WW2.

So. Here is my new idea. It's a Uni story - based on a new fresher (1st year).
I'll be getting my ideas and such from events that actually happen but all characters, most places and probably even the university - will be fictional.

I have an exam tomorrow, then 2500 word essay to start and finish by monday :S but then i'm home and I can get writing :D especially because my uni starts later than all my friends so i'll be bored after xmas when they go back.
I hope you guys enjoy it :)

School was over, exams were passed
and summer '09 had been filled with Pimms, polo and parties.

It was time to grow up...
Iona Westerly didn't think so.

Leaving home meant more freedom, independence
and a severe lack of adult control.
Everything Iona had been waiting for.

Chapter 1

After receiving my key to the flat I headed over to F Block which would be my new home for the upcoming year. The grounds were covered with kids my age and older, dragging suitcases and carrying heavy boxes around with the help of parents.
Unsurprisingly neither of my parents had offered to come and help me move in. Normal parents would care that their kids were starting University and be excited and sad at the same time to help their children move into a flat with others they'd never met.
Not mine.
I opened the door to F Block and turned left into Flat 2 which would be the one I'd be sharing with five others. I went over to my room and unlocked it, noticing the kitchen was empty and all the other doors were still closed. I must have been the first to arrive.
I dumped my suitcase and boxes onto the floor and bed and took in the small room. Suddenly my Blackberry beeped signalling I had a message. I dug into my leather bag and finally found it. Just as expected it was from my boyfriend from home – Jake.

Hey baby, just wanted to know you'd arrived safely. Give me a call later. Love you. xxxxx

Jake had never been supportive of me wanting to go to university straight from school... His reaction to me mentioning a chat about long distance relationships had been blown right out of proportion by him and in the end I hadn't had the guts to end it.

I began unpacking, wrinkling my nose up at the complete lack of clothing space. Luckily there was a full length mirror. I looked at my reflection and ruffled my wavy auburn hair making the golden natural highlights shine through.
A knock at the door made me jump and I headed over, excited to meet my first new house mate. I yanked the heavy door open to face one of the most gorgeous guys I'd ever seen. I stood taking in his amazingly deep dark blue eyes and dark hair before realising I should say something,

“Err hi?” I managed to get out before absent mindedly reaching up and touching my cheeks which felt like they were burning red. Luckily I didn't have the colouring of a red head and my skin had a golden glow about it, so hopefully the blushing wasn't obvious.

“Hey, I just moved in. I'm in the room next to yours and heard you come in. Looks like it's just us two at the moment. Do you want to come and get a cup of tea in the kitchen?” He replied and I noticed he had an American accent. “Oh and I'm Albany Jackson by the way.” He reached down to help me lift the box I was trying to pick up filled with kitchen utensils.

“Thanks, I'm Iona Westerly.”

We headed into the kitchen which I suspected would not be anywhere near as clean in the next week or so and began to empty pots, pans and crockery into the cupboards available to us.

“So where are you from?” I asked, curious about his accent.

“Boston, Massachusetts. I'm on exchange.” He replied while flicking the switch on the kettle to boil the water. “It's so strange hearing English accents everywhere. I've never
been to England before.”

“I'm from Cheshire, so not too far away.” I said, “Thanks.” Albany placed a cup of tea in front of me on the table.

The door suddenly swung open and a skinny girl with long blonde hair walked in with a huge grin on her face which couldnt help but cause me to smile too.

“Hey!” She practically sung, “I'm Georgie, I cant believe we're finally at uni!” I giggled at her excitement and introduced myself.

“Here have a cup of tea, I'm Albany.” Albany had poured another cup and placed it infront of the blond whirlwind who had just entered.

“One second, I know what we've forgotten.” Georgie rushed out as quickly as she'd entered and returned not with not the biscuits I'd expected but a litre bottle of Smirnoff Vodka and a bottle of Sprite.

“It's only midday, dont you think it's a bit early for vodka?!” Albany looked at me and raised an eyebrow. It was such a cute look I had to turn away to ensure he didnt see me blush again.

“You're in England now, do as the English do!” Georgie poured herself a glass and raised it, “To Uni and everything that comes with it!”

Chapter 2

The clear liquid in the Smirnoff bottle gradually disappeared along with our inhibitions causing the conversation to become easier but also a lot less comprehendible.

“So Albany, do you have a girlfriend back on Boston?” Georgie asked Albany innocently.
I on the other hand looked up at his perfectly chiselled face and prayed he's say no.

Albany shook his head, “My ex and I thought it would be best if we broke up before college. I don't think she fully trusted me half way across the world to be honest.” He laughed, “We hadn't been going out all that long and I really didn't think it was going to go anywhere anyway. How about you two?”

Before either of us had time to reply, we noticed a face peering through the fire glass of the kitchen door. Georgie waved, “I think it's a new flat mate!”
The door slowly opened to reveal a shortish girl with matching brown hair and eyes and glasses perched on a freckled nose.

“Err hey, I'm Karly.” She spoke quietly and with a welsh accent. The introductions were repeated once again and Karly sat down between Georgie and I.

“Drink?” Georgie offered. Karly shook her head, I hadn't thought she would be the type to drink. She looked like someone who was at Uni just to work and not appreciate the fact we were far from home with no adults to tell us what to do.

“I dont really drink thanks.”

When she replied I rolled my eyes to Georgie behind Karly's back, before feeling bad about it. I shouldn't be judging my flat mate so early on to meeting her.

The rest of the afternoon went in a blur of new faces, unpacking and unsurprisingly more vodka. The newest and final additions to our flat were two other guys – Finn; blonde and toned from the coast, and Ludo; dark haired and tall from the country. That made our flat equal, three girls and three guys.
Both Ludo and Finn seemed like complete lads, getting down to drink as soon as they saw the alcohol. It looked like I'd gotten lucky with my flat mates, i could see we were going to all get along.

“Iona come on let's get down to the Student's Union, we've got to get there before 10.30!” Georgie was yelling, banging on my door as I finished applying my makeup.

“Give me two seconds. Come in if you want.” I shouted back and Georgie stumbled through the door, obviously rather drunk.
I ruffled my hair in the mirror and pouted at myself, wondering what Albany thought of me. I reached down to pick up my Blackberry.

“Sh!t, 10 missed calls!” I sighed, they were all from Ryan. I didn't know what I was going to do about him.

“I really dont understand why you didnt break up before Uni. I know what you're like...” Georgie slurred.

“You know what i'm like? You've known me a few hours.” I looked at Georgie and playfully smacked her across the head with my empty bag. “I'm not the one who starts drinking at midday.” I joked and quickly stuck my camera, Blackberry, makeup and money into my bag.

“Yeah well who says we cant. We can do whatever we want.” With that reply, we linked arms and headed out the door to where the guys were waiting for us.

“Oh god, do you think we should see if Karly wants to come?” I looked at Georgie and she shrugged in return.

“I'd feel kind of mean, look we're all going out together without her.” I didn't know why I wanted to be nice to her when she hadn't made an effort to stay and chat earlier. I wasn't at all like that at home before. But starting a new life meant turning over a new leaf, so I may as well try be a better person.

I quickly ran back into the flat and knocked on Karly's door. A few seconds later she pulled it open, “Yes?”

“We're going to the SU for the welcome party, want to come with us?” I said quickly, we were in a rush to beat the queues.

She looked down at my tight black skirt and heels then back up to my face, “Thanks but I think I'll stay in, it doesn't really look like it'll be my thing.”

“You sure? It's the first night here. Great to meet loads more people.” I tried again but she continued to shake her head. Well at least I tried.
“Have a good night then.” I ran quickly, well as fast as you could in 4 inch heels, back out to Georgie, Albany, Finn and Ludo.
Thank god my other flat mates knew how to party.

You should try just taking a break, because it's probably just writers block.
Or you could try like brainstorming where you want your story to go, what you want your readers to get out of it, that kind of thing.

yeah i think it really needs a plan... like i thought it could just be from my own uni experiences. and i have one idea about a couple of the characters but i guess just going through my experiences, yeah lots of fun things are happening but for a story... it needs more then the same every night partying :/

i think i'll do that, thanks :)

This chapter i wrote before i started thinking about actually planning the story properly... I'm sorry if it;s boring... I just cant seem to write like i used to.

Chapter 3

I have to say the welcome party was a little cheesy, not too bad but I could tell it was going to be something we wouldn't probably go to again.
The room they used for events in the SU was pretty huge with a bar to one side and another just above and the third bar before you reached the smoking area outside into another room. There was a stage where the DJs were playing and everyone was sort of standing around looking awkward.

A few people were dancing and there was quite a large group around the bar but otherwise it was looking rather tame.
I grabbed Georgie's hand, we didn't need anything more to drink,

“Come on, let's dance!” I shouted over the music, which coincidentally turned to Lady Gaga's “Let's Dance'.
Georgie and I headed right into the middle of the small crowd who were dancing and began to dance together. I was glad we were living together, we seemed to be on the same wave length. As i danced I noticed and then recognised a cute Ralph Lauren sweater.
My eyes were drawn up the face of the boy – it was Albany. I smiled and hoped I wasn't blushing, he was just so good looking.
I have a boyfriend! I tried to remind myself and dragged Georgie outside to the smoking area.

“Hey I was just getting into that!” Georgie moaned but pulled out her menthol cigarettes none the less.

“Sorry I just really needed some air.” I lied and shivered in the cool summer air.
A girl with dark blonde hair tied up in a really messy bun walked, well stumbled, over,

“Hey neither of you happen to have a lighter do you?” She asked. I passed her my pink lighter and she lit up.

“Thanks, i'm Ariella. You guys both first years?” She passed it back and looked up at us both.

“Yeah, we're in the halls on campus, F Block.” Georgie replied, “What about you?”

“Oh that's awesome, so am I! H Block.” She smiled.
I heard someone calling mine and Georgie's name and turned to see Albany standing with Ludo, Finn and a few other guys.

“God he's hot!” Ariella's jaw dropped as she looked over.

“Tell me about it.” I murmured and Georgie turned looking confused.

“Iona... you have a boyfriend!” Georgie slurred, “Like I said before, why didn't you get rid
of him?!”
“Oh god you didn't come to uni with a boyfriend with you, did you?” Ariella turned to look at me with her light blue eyes, “My sister said pretty much everyone she knew when she went to uni a couple of years ago cheated on their boyfriends.” She finished and I turned away from looking a Albany, knowing I was looking completely guilty.

“We should probably go see what they want.” I said quickly, trying to change the subject.
Georgie, Ariella “Call me Ari” and I headed over to see what our flat mates and their new found friends wanted.

“Ariella this is Ludo, Finn and Albany.” I pointed at them one at a time and at Albany's name she turned and blatently winked at me, I tried to ignore it, “And guys this is Ariella.” They all obviously checked her out as I said it.

“So you're all flat mates?” She asked and Finn nodded, his blonde hair flicking over his eyes as he did so.

“Oh and we have this other chick. Kayley?” Ludo said questioningly.

“Karly.” Georgie replied, “She said this wasn't really her scene.” She made air quotes as she said the word 'scene'.

“It's the Freshers welcome party, I don't understand why she didn't want to come.” Ludo said with his cute very country British accent.

I felt someone's eyes on me and looked up, Albany was looking at me smiling in a friendly way, I didn't know what to make of it so smiled back and looked down at the ground, stubbing out Ari's still glowing cigarette with the toe of my shoe.

“Come on, let's go back inside and dance.” I turned and hoped the others would follow. I needed something to do to get my mind off Albany.

Don't worry, Annie, you'll get it figured out. I like the whole Albany/Iona thing.
