I have dark blonde hair which goes quite light in the summer, but this winter it's gone way darker than usual and I'm just so bored of it's mousy blondeness...
I wouldnt want to dye it all over because it's finally in good condition and a load of peroxide would wreck it (especially terrible as i have wavy/curly hair) and also i have nice natural highlights and dont want block colour...
Which is why i thought i'd try semi permanent dye...
Better for the hair and washes out after however long so no roots...
But what are any of your experiences with it? And what do you guys suggest?
I want to go a couple of shades lighter and on line loads of things say you cant go lighter with semi perms. but i know you can haha. (they'll have very little peroxide)
Are you talking about the stuff that doesn't give you roots/you don't have to redye your roots? (I assume you are because you said it washes out.) If so, my mama uses that and it's really noticeable the first day but after a couple washes or so it looks fine. She likes it... but I can't give you any personal advice about it.
Yeah it doesnt go into the roots as deep as permanent dye so it can last anything from 8 to 30 washes. Which is why it doesnt leave roots as it'll naturally fade before roots begin to show. What colour does your mum use? Do you know the make? Thanks .
I use semi permanent. But I dye my hair darker, instead of lighter. Ion Color Brillance Intensive Shine Demi Permanent, is what I used. I dyed it in late November and my old color is just starting to show through on the roots. Because I have natural dirty blonde hair, and my dyed hair is a dark brown; you see a shimmer of gold at my roots, but it's not as intense as if I was using a permante dye. Semi/Demi is good for trying to figure out your color or your first time (like me). But eventually, you will have to retouch it but it's really not as much as a hassle as you think.

You're not quite there, you're not on my level. Trust me, for you I'm trouble.
just so you know, dying your hair darker is healthy for your hair.
Yeah that's why i thought about dying it brown but i'm not sure if it would suit me.
Which is why i want to go a bit blonder damaging the least i can possible as i know lightening your hair damages it more than darkening it.
Thanks Paige, I havnt seen that one in the shop but i'll check it out online. I think i've over researched and read too many reviews on different ones i've now confused myself and making myself worry more about it going wrong.
I'd suggest using semi if you want to go darker, and only go a couple of shades darker. That way it'll wash out soonish if you dont like it. I'm just too nervous to try after being blonde my whole life...
I've bought Garnier Herbishine... In Ash blonde as apparently i'm cool toned and so golden tones would wash me out (according to online things... ) but tbh in the summer my hair is goldeny colour anyway.. But i figured it's less likely to go wrong and ginger....
I've put the stuff on for the allergy test so I can do it on saturday :) I'll let you know how it goes.
Hmm if you're an "ashy" blonde that might be harder to get the color right out of a box.. but my mom has dark hair, like almost black so I doubt you'd want that. She uses Clairol, though, which seems pretty decent
I've got dirty blonde hair but with lots of golden highlights. I really want to change my look dramatically and try out a reddish brown color but I don't know, I'll have to think about it.
I dont think that link will take you right to the colour - it's under blonde then ash blonde 810.
I dont think my hair is really 'ash blonde' - well at the moment its darker than the one on the box but in the summer its deff more golden than ash, but like i said before i'm worried about the golden tones going ginger with the dye haha. I'd rather in not make much of a difference then going wrong.
well i did it this morning... I dont think we left it in long enough. I was confused, it said leave for 10 mins... but does that mean once it's all on? or from application? As the first bits would have been done like 5/10mins before the last bits... Anyway it hasnt made a whole lot of difference. Feels nice... but it's only a bit lighter, like i dont think it'll be noticeable as my hair usually is lighter in the sun anyway. Should have gone for a lighter golden blonde but oh well i'm just glad it didnt go wrong!
yayy that's good it came out nice...i want to dye my hair lighter, so maybe i'll buy some semi permanent dye too. my hairs kind of dirty blonde/light brown now, but i want it to be brighter.
